Printer Peer
is a professional tool that allows IT administrators to quota and track user and
printer usage. Printers, ink, toner and paper are valuable resources and the cost
associated to irresponsible printing may be as much as 40% of the total cost of
ownership of computer systems. Taking control over the usage of these resources
allows you to significantly cut the costs and make the job easier for IT administrators
and end users.
Printer Peer's
server-based system can be installed very easily even by inexperienced personnel.
The installation does not require any alteration of existing networks and does not
require special hardware or software. Printer Peer is the only product you need
in order to add auditing and quota management functionality to your corporate network.
This product can accommodate networks
of virtually any size. The clients that use the printers may be scattered across
buildings or offices. As long as there is network connectivity, Printer Peer
is able to track users and enforce quotas.
Printer Peer
was designed with security in mind, from the ground up. Being a server-based solution,
the user cannot tamper with the proper functionality of the program in any way because
there is nothing to install on the client machine. Printer Peer works by intercepting
the incoming communication that contains information to be printed, at the server
level. Other similar products claim that their client-side implementations are tamper-resistant.
In practice, there is always a way to get around such schemes, so be careful about
this aspect when evaluating similar products.
Deploying Printer Peer on your corporate
network is as easy as it can be. Upon downloading the product, you will essentially
be doing the following:
- Install
Once downloaded, Printer Peer's setup
program will be executed on the central print server. The installation is fully-automatic
and there is nothing to set at this point.
- Set-up
Printer Peer can be easily configured through its user-friendly interface. You are
able to choose which printers to monitor (yes, you may choose to ignore some of
the printers), selectively choose which users to allow or disallow access to printers,
establish printing quotas, alerts and many other exciting features. Take the time
to create the printing scenarios that best suit your needs. You will only do this
once.
- Watch
The system works independently of human interaction. All you have to do is watch
the detailed reports, check the printing log and ensure that everything complies
with the rules that you enforced.
- Cut printing costs
Having a set of rules
to be enforced basically means cutting unnecessary expenses. Why print invoices
on your latest color laser printer, just because the accountant is fond of it? Why
print large documents single-sided when printing them double-sided halves the paper
waste.
